Toyota Motor is recalling 3,864 vehicles in Russia, including Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX 500D and LX 600 models, sold between September 30, 2021, and present due to an increased risk of accidents.

Toyota Motor is recalling a total of 3,864 vehicles in Russia, comprising Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX 500D and LX 600 models. These vehicles were sold between September 30, 2021, and present. The recall is being issued due to an elevated risk of accidents associated with these models.

The issue lies in the transmission of these vehicles, which uses a clutch piston to engage the brake disc pads with the power transmission plates that transfer power from the engine to the wheels. Due to the specific design of a certain brake disc, when the transmission is shifted to neutral and the clutch piston is released from pressure, the brake disc pads might not immediately disengage from the plates, allowing some engine power to continue being transmitted to the wheels.

If this condition occurs while the vehicle is on a flat surface and the driver does not apply the working or parking brake, it could result in the vehicle moving forward slightly, thereby increasing the risk of an accident, according to the company's statement.

All the affected vehicles will be reprogrammed free of charge at authorized dealerships to address the problem in the automatic transmission electronic control unit.
